The Good

Spirit Orbs

While driving with my husband through a historic coastal town along Puget Sound in western Washington, Ian unexpectedly made a comment which gave me pause: “I feel really strange right now.” Unsure if he was referring to a medical issue which may require urgent attention, I asked for clarification. “It’s not something physical—I just feel like there is something here that I can’t explain. It is very heavy in this spot…”

“Turn on your console and take a look around, but be careful,” I responded. (His “console” is his abilities; by “turning on his console”, he opens his psychic eye to be able to see and interact with the dead.)

I slowed to a stop at a traffic sign, pausing the vehicle so that he could activate his talent and observe our surroundings. It was night and we were in an area without anyone else on the road, so we could remain at the stop sign as long as we wanted. Within seconds, all I heard from Ian was, “Wow!” His eyes were wide, and he had an expression of awe on his face. He was scanning the four-way stop through the windshield and passenger window, speechless.

“Well?” I queried, eager to be let in on what Ian was witnessing.

“It’s amazing! There are spirits everywhere!” he exclaimed, almost breathless. Another long pause, then he continued. “It’s like they are glowing glass balls…bio-luminescent. There are hundreds of them! Maybe even more. They’re filling the air around us as far as I can see!”

As I began to move the car forward, in Ian’s eyes, it was as if we were swimming through a sea of brilliantly illuminated jellyfish, perfectly spherical, drifting around us and interacting with our presence and each other. The intense feeling he reacted to just moments before was the heaviness of literally hundreds—possibly even thousands—of souls in our immediate vicinity. An ocean of spirits sharing a unified appearance and purpose.

Could these be the souls of countless people lost throughout history in this area of the coast? Shipwrecked spirits, or maybe even explorers dating back to the earliest travels of man in this part of the world? Possibly. All we know is that the paranormal activity in this historic seaside community was off the charts. When I saw that Ian’s energy was being affected by these spirits, I accelerated to get us out of the area as quickly as possible and told him to close his abilities in order to protect himself. There was no intentional harm being done to him by these souls, but with the presence of so many in one spot, it was prudent take this precaution.

With his console off, Ian breathed a deep sigh, and focused his energy back to himself. He began to feel normal again once we moved away from the coast and started the twenty minute drive home. I navigated the winding road silently for a while as my husband meditated and rejuvenated his life force. Later, when we returned to our house, Ian sketched a picture of what he saw, which I illustrated in the rendering for this story. Although he confirmed that my visual representation is extremely accurate, I can only imagine what this sight was really like from his eyes. There is great wonder and beauty in the realm of the paranormal. But like the physical world around us, also significant danger if left unguarded for too long…
